Gran Canaria - Canary Islands

Gran Canaria is almost circular with a diameter of around 48 km/ 30 mi. Because of its geographic and climatic diversity, it is called “mini Continent”, the highest elevation is Pico de las Nieves (1,949 m). Starting from the mountainous center, dry Valleys, called Barrancos, go down to the coast, through a arid and hilly landscape. In the South are sand dunes at the coast by Maspaloas.
There is a well operating public bus system called “Guagua”; most travelers prefer rental cars though. The roads are generally in good condition.
